Remarkable H.M. POOL 6 Inch Mahogany Level with Original Label
This is the smallest Pool level I’ve seen and the only example like it I’m aware of. Retains most of the original label; what is legible matches perfectly to another Pool label. Full brass top and bottom plates with ten screws (full brass bottom plates are incredibly rare on early American Levels). Vial is full and working. This is the exact level shown on page 41, figure 3-26 in American Levels and their Makers by Don Rosebrook. (Misidentified in the book.) Horace Minot Pool began making levels on his own in 1841 when he parted ways with his brother, John. A very rare and special Pool level.
