Rare WILLIAM NICHOLSON Patent 1860 Iron Level
A very uncommon 20″ example with the rotating vial assembly as patented May 1, 1860. Very good untouched original condition retaining much of the original japanning. Both vials are full and working, and the plumb vial has the green paper label under it marked, “W.T. Nicholson, Maker, Providence, R.I.” Nicholson sold his patent to Stanley sometime in the early 1860’s, but Stanley never offered the levels with the rotating vial assembly.
