Rare & Awesome S. DEAN 18th Century Yellow Birch Crown Molding Plane

$2,750.00

Planes bearing this imprint are thought to have been made by Samuel Dean (born in 1700 in Taunton, MA., died in 1775) who worked as a joiner in Dedham, MA from 1732-47, making him among America’s earliest plane makers.  AWP5 “B” mark (probably his earliest mark) rated 3 stars rarity.  A super example with its original faceted and pinned tote.  The wedge is a replacement, otherwise a spectacular survivor for over 275 years.  A plane older than the country itself, and made when George Washington was just a youngster.  There is excellent research and information available about Dean at: https://www.earlyamericanplanes.com/ .   A special piece of American history.
