Special 8 Inch John Gillon Machinist Bench Level

A fine and very unique cast iron machinist bench level signed on a paper label under the vial by John Gillon. The 1880 federal census lists John Gillon as a machinist living in Lowell, Mass. Vial housing with elongated side views and an inset brass top plate sits atop an iron base with magnificent arched tombstone ends and grooved edges. Vial is full and working, and the base retains original milling marks. Unlike any other iron machinist level I’ve seen. A very special piece.
