Uber Rare & Awesome Gunmetal Core Box Plane

An extremely rare plane and the only example known in gunmetal (the one other known example is iron – see PTAMPIA, page 214). Very closely relates to the plane patented December 4, 1866 by Elisha W. Lewis of Philadelphia, PA. Note the similar plane in PTAMPIA is marked “W.H. Groat 1886”. W.H. Groat is noted in the 1855 New York State Census as a Machinist living in Troy, NY. FINE original condition with four original cutters and additional adjustment assembly. A super plane with much mystique.
