A great example of a rare type 1 rule made by A. Stanley & Co. circa 1853-57.   Warranted boxwood with scales on outer edge.  Tight fit with a very good arch joint, and retains both pins.  Marked with the model number and “E” and “M”.  A really nice pre-Civil War rule.  In 1857, A. Stanley & Co. merged with Hall & Knapp and formed The Stanley Rule & Level Company – the rest is history.
