Rare P. QUIGLEY Newark, N.J. 16″ Mahogany Short Stock Level – c. 1850

Philip Quigley was born in Ireland in 1824 and immigrated to the United States in the mid 1840’s and began making levels soon after in about 1848. Small, or short stock levels like this are far less common than the full stock carpenters levels offered by early American level makers. This 16 inch example has a beautiful mahogany stock with a brass inverse arch top plate. Vial is full and working. An uncommon pre-Civil War level.
