Rare! MULLIKEN & STACKPOLE Boston, Mass. Small Stock Mahogany Level – 1850’s

A very rare signed eight inch mahogany level with a full brass top plate by Mulliken & Stackpole of Boston, Mass. John Mulliken and John Stackpole made levels together from about 1856 to 1861. This example remains in excellent original condition retaining much of the original lacquer finish on the wood. Vial is full and working. The majority of early American makers made small stock levels such as this, but examples by any maker are far less common than their full size carpenters’ levels.
