EARLY! Adjustable Pitch Inclinometer with Graduated Pewter Scale – c. 1835

$975.00

Nothing is known about who made these early and unique inclinometers. Hand marked pewter face with original red wash to the body. Movable feet add stability when incline is adjusted by means of the thumb screws. Length is 21 5/8 inches. My feeling is, because of the early construction and unique features, these date from about the 1820’s to 1840’s. I know of 3-4 examples which likely means someone at least attempted to offer them for sale. Two of these I know for certain were found in New England. This is the exact example shown and discussed on page 226 of American Levels and their Makers by Don Rosebrook. Previously from his legendary collection. A very special inclinometer.
