Awesome! J.L. CLUFF Rosewood Shipwrights’ Coffin Miter Plane – Circa 1850

This gorgeous ten inch example is boldly marked, “J.L. CLUFF, MAKER”. Cluff is rated 3 stars rarity in AWP5. Most of these exotic wood planes came from the New England coast and were made for the bustling ship building industry of the 1800’s. Unlike most examples found today, this example has survived in excellent condition and clearly saw very little use. It’s also fairly uncommon to find these maker marked as many were made by the shipwrights themselves for their personal use. 1-3/4 inch Moulson Brothers iron. A really great plane.
