Uber Rare! PATENT LEVEL CO., A.J. VANDERGRIFT’S Patent 1866 Mahogany Inclinometer & Level

A very rare 14 inch example in fine original condition. Patented May 8, 1866 by Andrew Vandergrift of Cincinnati, OH and manufactured by the Patent Level Co. of Bridgeport, CT. More commonly found in a cast brass mantel clock style, these mahogany examples are far rarer. I have never seen an example of Vandergrift’s patent that had original fluid in it, but after carful examination, I can’t find how this one may have been refilled and I feel the fluid is quite possibly original. One of only 2-3 examples I’ve seen.
