Uber Rare! 30 Inch G.C. LEES & CO. “Hudson River” Style Double Level & Plumb

This is the only level I’m aware of marked by G.C. Lees & Co., Westport, CT. I’ve been unable to locate any info about this company, but do know the Lees were a prominent Westport family involved in manufacturing in the 1800’s. The constriction of this level is also very unique: Machine screws pass though the back of the level and secure into the back side of the brass faceplates. There are also large wood screws on the top and bottom edges of the level that seem to have something to do with the faceplates. As wood does, the stock seems to have shrunk and seems to be holding the faceplates very tightly, and I don’t want to force anything to see just how everything is constructed. All three vials are full and working. A rare level truly deserving of being called unique.
