Super! STANLEY No. 48 Iron Frame Level with ROSEWOOD Infill

Gorgeous 12″ example retaining nearly all of the original lacquer finish. These very rare #48’s with rosewood, rather than the advertised walnut infill, are thought to be the very earliest offering of these levels (it’s also possible these were made for the great Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia). I only know if about 4 of these with rosewood, and this example has survived the last 150 or so years in excellent original condition. No cracks or breaks in the iron frame, and both vials are full and working with the proper early green paper under them. Among the most important Stanley levels.
