Super! I. LINDENBERGER 18th Century Molding Plane – Revolutionary War Officer

Excellent 9.5″ yellow birch example that looks unused. John Lindenberger was born in Baltimore, MD in 1754, and served as a Lieutenant in the American Revolutionary War. Lindenberger was part of the German Battalion which the continental congress approved the formation of in late May, 1776. Comprised of German settlers of Pennsylvania and Maryland, the battalion served in Matthias Alexis Roche de Fermoy’s brigade which was part of Major General Nathanael Greene’s division. Both Roche de Fermoy and Greene were part of a meeting of officers who met with George Washington on Dec. 22, 1776 to plan the attack on Trenton. On the march to Trenton after the crossing of the Delaware River at McConkey’s Ferry, Washington accompanied Greene’s column, which Washington referred to as his 2nd division or left wing of the army. Lindenberger was present at the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Trenton and Princeton. It’s incredible to think that this plane was made by a man who more than likely participated in the treacherous Christmas night crossing of the Delaware River with George Washington on December, 25 1776, and helped turn the tide of the war and history. A great plane and special piece of American history.
