RARE & AWESOME! 12″ Iron Filigree Square Handle with Level

This stunning tool is one of only two examples I’m aware of. The intricate heart and flower filigree is fully intact and reminiscent of the pattern used on C.E. Jennings’ levels. After digging though square patents, I found it closely follows some ideas and design elements of Leonard D. Howard’s patent of August 11, 1885. The blade is not original, and the other known example is also sans its blade. It’s possible the rule was intended to be user supplied. Level vial is full and working. A very rare and graphic 19th century tool.
