N. Shaw Philadelphia Level c. 1840

Nathan Shaw was a Philadelphia cabinet maker from the late 1830’s to the mid 1840’s and is considered one of Philadelphia’s earliest level makers. Marked on a paper label under the vial. This configuration with sloping ends is very unusual for an early American level, though Shaw is known for unusual stock configurations. Shaw levels are very uncommon. (Only the front level in the photo is for sale.)
