M.W. Robinson Type 1 Level with “BROOKLYN” in the Casting

In 1892, the Davis Level & Tool Co. ceased operations and the level business was taken over by M.W. Robinson and moved to New York. This level represents one of the very first offered by Robinson, denoted by having “BROOKLYN” in the casting above the level vial. For whatever reason, Robinson seems to have changed the casting very early on because levels with this location are very scarce. This example has survived the last 127 years in amazing, untouched original condition. Full, bright japanning and nickel remain in nearly perfect condition. Bluing on the large top screws has darkened but is fully intact. Some very minor paint splatter on the frame and light surface oxidation on the rails are the only thing that could potentially be lightly and carefully cleaned, but I’ve chosen to leave it just as found. All three vials are full, working and original.
