Fantastic & Rare BLANDIN Patent 1867 Vertical Post Jack Plane
A spectacular 14 inch example retaining nearly full japanning. Sighed with the patent date on the finely knurled brass adjusting wheel. Excellent tote and knob. Patented May 7, 1867 by Benjamin A. Blandin of Charlestown, Mass. Some roughness at the edge of the cutter is the only thing to note.
I fell in love with Blandin’s planes at one of the very first Brown auctions I attended about 25 years ago, where the only known Blandin No. 1 plane sold for over $20,000. There’s just something about Blandin’s planes I really like. They’re simple and have fantastic lines – they’re just beautiful tools.
