Awesome & Heavy! H.M. POOL Mahogany Plumb & Level – c. 1841

John and his brother Horace parted ways in level making in 1841, and this example is thought to be from the very earliest days of when H.M. Pool was making levels on his own. This is evident by the remnants of the “&” left in the stamp before Horace could have his own stamp made. Dark, very heavy furniture-grade mahogany with heavy brass corners and two side views with large double openings. The level measures 23 inches long and is very heavy for its size, weighing in at 4 pounds, 7 ounces. Both vials are full and working. A great example.
