Astounding! STANLEY No. 48 Iron Frame Level With ROSEWOOD Infill

An absolutely jaw dropping 12″ example with bold sapwood on one side. These very rare #48’s with rosewood, instead of the advertised walnut infill, are thought to be the very earliest offering of these levels (it’s also possible these were made for the great Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia). I only know if about 3-4 of these with rosewood and this is by far the most stunning example. No cracks or breaks in the iron frame, and both vials are full and working with the proper early green paper under them. Among the very best and most important Stanley levels.
