Rare & Gorgeous E. L. Barnes Patent 1875 Mirror Level

Patented by Edwin Barnes of Boston, MA on February 16, 1875. A fine 30 inch example with full working vials and undamaged mirrors. All known examples are incorrectly marked with the patent date of September 20, 1874 – It is unknown why they were marked like this. Tropical hardwood stock is heavy and very dense. Imagine a cross between mahogany and lignum vitae – I’m unsure of the species.
